Steroids in Baseball

Is there any proof that a steroid in baseball has enhanced the record book with unfair records. At this time, no there is not. We should all remember a couple things before making accusations and pointing fingers. Barry Bonds went on to have an unbelievable season setting a single season record of home runs that will probably never be surpassed in my mind. This happened from a guy that usually averaged around 35 homers a season. Could you explain the exponential jump in his homerun stats? Probably not. You can probably make the assumption that his maturity has led him to his peak and has had a dream season.

Let’s take a look at Roger Maris. When Roger went on to hit 61 home runs in a single season, did everyone in the world suddenly start saying there must be a steroid in baseball that he is using? And this is a guy who barely makes any homeruns. Or he must be doing something to enhance his game. No they did not. They assumed that he just had a magical season that only comes around ever so often. Can we draw the same conclusions about Barry, and about Mark? Yes, we can. Could it be that they had magical seasons? Absolutely. Anything is possible.

Until the evidence comes out, we don’t know what any athlete is doing. What I do know as a former major leaguer is how difficult it is to perform at such a high level day in and day out. In my mind, whether they go Buy Steroids or not, you still have to hit the ball over the fence. You still have to make solid contact consistently. You still have to have great fundamentals. I think what has happened on the baseball field has been remarkable and we are lucky to be able to witness such great athletes perform daily.

Steroids in my mind take away from the game. Even though they provide a quick explosion of muscle mass and endurance, over the long run, they will harm you. They will cause psychotic events, and physical damage that will last a life time. The bottom line is simple. Play the game the way it is meant to be played. Play with honor and pride and dignity. And above all, leave steroids out of it.Using a steroid in baseball is simply not worth it.

Many bodybuilders consume maltodextrin or dextrose for the energy required to complete 60 to 120 minutes weight and cardio training sessions. These carbohydrate sources are selected because of their slow-burning nature, which aids in blood glucose level management following workouts as well. However, many bodybuilders are quickly discovering that honey is a great substitute with some additional benefits.

Honey, like dextrose, is terrific in post-workout protein shakes for increasing insulin levels in this very small anabolic growth window. A fast food solution (which should always be the exception, not the rule) would be some KFC chicken smothered in honey from their handy honey packets.

Honey also provides additional anti-oxidant effects on the body, making it doubly useful for bodybuilders in that all-important recovery window following a workout. Be careful if you are allergic to honey (as many are) and consult a doctor if you have any adverse reactions to this tasty and useful food. What is Nitric Oxide?

So What Is It Exactly?

Nitric Ocide is a compound made up one nitrogen atom and one oxygen atom. In order for the body to create nitric oxide, it must do so with the help of arginine and a family of enzymes called nitric oxide synthase (NOS). Arginine is an amino acid by the way. When arginine and a NOS enzyme come in contact with each other, the reaction produces nitric oxide along with citrulline which is another amino acid. Interestingly enough, citrulline can be reversly converted into arginine through a two-step process requiring the amino acid aspartic acid. Also known as Aspartate. Therefore, if your aim is to amplify nitrix oxide levels in your body, it would be in your best interest to take a supplements that provides a generous supply of all three of these amino acids. In doing so, you’ll provide yourself with the precursor to Nitric Oxide which is arginine, while supplying the precursors citrulline and aspartic acid to support and increase arginine production. Thus, your body’s total arginine pool is improved.

What Does Nitric Oxide Do?

Nitric Oxide travels freely from one cell to another in your body directing and ordering a wide variety of functions within the human body. Depending on the situation, Nitric Oxide can act as a intracellular messenger, like a hormone, or a neurotransmitter. However, for the purpose of bodybuilding, we’ll focus on the role of Nitric Oxide as an intracellular messenger regulating one of the body’s most important processes, which is blood flow.

How Nitric Oxide Work?

Nitric Oxide is produced within the flat endothelial cells that line the inside of blood vessels. When the endothelial cell is stimulated, such as when the muscle contracts, it synthesizes and releases nitric oxide. Once released, nitric oxide diffuses across the endothelial cell membrane into the adjacent smooth muscle tissue of the blood vessels. Thus, causing them to relax and widen. This process is called vasodilation. The end result is an increase in blood flow to the stimulated area, which ultimately causes your muscles to get pumped and stay that way for atleast 40 minutes after training. So why do exactly your muscles get so pumped? Basically, the pump is one of the body’s fail-safe mechanisms for preventing a decline in muscle function and performance. Blood, which is the blody’s primary transport medium, carries all the vital nutrients to the muscle, which is required for energy production, growth and maintenance. Additionally, blood carries awat the byproduct of metabolism such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid that fatigue the muscle and inhibit performance.

Therefore, increasing blood flow to the muscle enhances growth, strength development, and recuperation. And remember, nitric oxide is what helps make the pump possible. However, as powerful as nitric oxide is, it does have its limitations.
